CHARACTER
Name: Rose Lalonde
Canon: Homestuck
Age: 15
Timeline: An unseen/implied point during Year 2 of the meteor journey. Specifically, between the Openbound flash and A6I3.
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: n/a

Personality: Rose is usually fairly verbose, and lives up to her username of "purpleprose." In times gone by it was much worse, but she's been through a lot since then and now has a little less of a tendency to be loquacious. She has a showy nature, so the prose befits her, but she can be blunt when Shit Gets Real. The bluntness is often offset by her natural sense of drama. When she's not toying with someone, she is straightforward, if wordy. The only sugarcoating she does is to make a blunt and cutting statement at least sound pretty.

Rose is something of a drama queen, though not particularly in the traditional sense, and not as much as she used to be. She's simultaneously a closet romantic and a chronic cynic. As such, she likes to be irritatingly cryptic and know-it-all. She gets a kick out of poetic justice and she can find romance even in tragedy. Once upon a time she had fun with her dark magic, loved her cult of consort-followers and dreamed of a life narrated by Stephen King; and while she's been disillusioned, she still harbors some of these fantasies.

Rose dearly loves the dark, romantic, absurd, and the darkly romantic absurd. She also dearly loves her friends. As apathetic and mature and untouchable as she likes to appear, Rose has a lot of affection for her friends, though she shows it in odd ways. It's rare for her to get very sentimental, and it's never out of context, but when she does we see that she truly cares for those close to her, and that she'd do anything for them. Actually, despite all her calculating and planning, her emotions are prone to deeply affecting her decisions, which may be partially why she tries to negate them. For example, upon learning that Jack killed her mother, she was at first shocked, and then flew into a rage that contributed to her going grimdark, after which she went to find and kill Jack. It was absolutely stupid and rash and psychotic and suicidal, and she did it because he killed her mother. While it can be assumed that time and lessons learned have taught her how to better control herself and turn to other outlets, an introduction to a situation where stress is similar to that of the game's could likely push her to a similar explosion.

Which brings us to the fact that Rose has a tendency to bottle up all her emotions and let them fester. After all, she is supremely cognizant of her own flaws and mistakes--why shouldn't she be able to fix these things herself? She's usually very self-assured and prideful, and she will still, for the most part, refuse to talk about feelings if it will make her vulnerable. Reaching god tier seems to have helped her cope with these issues, but later in canon she turns to severe alcoholism for various (currently undisclosed) reasons. The point I've pulled her from is a point where she is midway between completely sober and sincerely alcoholic, a state brought on by a multitude of possibilities: her personal failures during the game, stress from interpersonal relationships on the meteor, the loss of her mother (and trying to feel closer to her), the odds that face her friends when they arrive at their destination, plus curiosity and years of boredom and a hereditary predisposition towards alcoholism. A drunk Rose is a silly, optimistic, loopy, ditzy, affectionate, giggly one.

When cornered, she becomes desperate in a frighteningly cold, cruel way; destructive. If she has to go down, she is sure as hell taking the world with her. She's determined, even if she's secretly terrified. The god tier, as stated, gives her tools to deal with being shoved in a corner, but that's not to say that an addition of stressful conditions wouldn't be enough to evoke such a reaction. Destruction, for Rose, can be cathartic in the direst of situations; it's a defense mechanism of denial. Once the futility sets in, she whips herself to a dark, morbid frenzy. She's terrified of not being able to fix things, perhaps a much deeper seated emotion earlier manifested in her exploration of psychoanalysis.

But removed from the corner and having spent two years calm upon the ship, despite her growing alcoholism, Rose has mellowed out a lot, especially compared to her grimdark-approaching ice queen days. She still likes to keep a nice black-lipstick smirk as a pokerface. She has a much more long-term perspective (and she'd better, considering she is a Seer) and seems more apt to think things through.

She loves to act the coolkid, but she's still a teenage girl. She gets nervous and uncomfortable--rarely--but she still does. She's now less concerned with how she appears in front of others, allowing herself to be silly outside of privacy. She's confident enough in herself to play dumb or schmooze to get what she wants; Kanaya said she had "an ego easily twice the mass of two universes," and she was right. She is full of snarky horseshit, and can be somewhat manipulative, but not to the point where she intentionally hurts others. Her humor is "all about subtle scorn;" she will toy with you endlessly, and if she likes you enough she'll actively try to push all your buttons and figure you out, but she's not out to legitimately hurt or upset you. Perhaps she can be a little ruthless, but not cruel. She can be both selfish and calculating and incredibly selfless and noble, playing the part of the heroine and the villainess. And she's never been one to really follow the rules when they don't serve her purposes.

Rose's morals are fairly arbitrary and they might not make sense to many others. She will do almost anything to protect what she cares for, and she's more prone to questionable means than any of her friends. She is not easily corrupted, per se, but she is the easiest corrupted out of the beta kids. She is enamored with the dubious and dark, romanticizes it thoroughly, and to some extent wants it to be a part of her. As such she is drawn disturbingly close to dark subjects and people. Rose generally judges people by their mental worth and character, not by their classical alignments or past actions. Even if she has no particular regard for a person's character, if she is interested enough or stands to gain enough she may keep on interacting.

Background: Here is a pretty good reference.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Rose's strengths include reading people (she's something of an amateur psychologist), predictions/clairvoyance as dictated by her Seer abilities, writing, violin-playing, knitting, high intelligence and picking up on things quickly, research and technological aptitude, an apparent aptitude towards magic, loyalty to friends, courage, open-mindedness, and knitting-needle combat. Her god tier state also lends her a certain immortality (elaborated in "abilities"). Her weaknesses include overconfidence, hyper-consciousness of her flaws, her developing alcoholism, w-shaped fridge magnets, occasional tendency towards self-sacrifice, caving under her own high expectations, caring too much what others think, bottling up emotions, stubbornness, fear of failure and tendency to turn everything into a contest.

Abilities: Canonically, Rose is literally god-tier, which means that she is semi-immortal. The official rule is that unless her death is considered "just" or "heroic," she will resurrect automatically. She is a Seer of Light, which means she's semi-clairvoyant and -omniscient. Aradia describes her ability as being "a knower of all fortune who can see the circuitous path that will lead to the most favorable outcome for everyone." It's hard for me as a mun to play out this knowledge of hers in a constantly-evolving game, and for this reason as well as the possibility that her powers might interfere with plots and events, her abilities in this sense should probably be capped to where they are "cloudy" enough to allow for her to be blindsided in some instances or be ignorant of certain plots.

She's also pretty mean with a pair of sharp knitting needles (the key is to go for the eyes) and she has previous experience with magic that, at its most powerful, turned her into something demonic and allowed her to break through barriers of time and space and deliver energy blasts of considerable mettle. This "magic," however, was likely a gift from when she was a pawn of the horrorterrors. While I don't believe it's unlikely that she still may have access to this, I do think that her apparent lack of contact with the horrorterrors will have weakened it, and that she would now be more hesitant to turn to it because of its link with the Furthest Ring.

First Person: [There's a young girl on screen with a shock of platinum hair and a slash of black lipstick, wearing what appear to be painfully orange pajamas. The expression on her face is a mixture of curious, cranky, and nonplussed, and the train station is readily apparent in the background.]

While these posters are a helpful introduction, there are still questions that bear asking. Though I suppose that if there were any definite "how" or "why" or "how long" that had been discovered, such would be readily posted as well?

[A faint sigh. She had thought she was done with the whole "being forced to leave one's residence and plunged into an unfamiliar, probably antagonistic setting without clearly defined rules and precious little idea what's going on" thing. Most especially the "little idea what's going on" part, with the advent of her Seer powers.]

My name is Rose Lalonde. Theories formed in answer to the previous questions are highly welcome, as well as any available facts not mentioned on the posters, and suggestions about exactly how one passes the time in a place such as this.

Third Person: She supposed that she really shouldn't be so cranky. After all, once upon a time she had longed for changes of scenery like this. And life on the meteor after two years with nothing to do, surrounded by the same idiosyncratic people day after day, was enough to drive anyone up a wall with boredom. If she was frank with herself, she had precious little to be unhappy with at the moment. And even if there was something to be upset about, it didn't look as if there was much that could be done about it. If there was, that would be on the posters, too.

It was the hangover, probably, she reasoned. Though she always remembered vaguely being a silly and happy drunk, she was a nearly insufferably cranky hangover victim. Another reason to have thrown all the moonshine out, she thought wryly, though I guess now it's too late. As many times as she had gone through these motions and told herself all the bad things that would end up happening in the short few weeks since she'd first figured out how to alchemize alcohol in her boredom, Rose never did.

As nice as it might be to get off of the meteor--to a place with actual grass and sky and, very likely, food that didn't have to be alchemized--it seemed as if this was not a vacation spot, and there was probably a very good reason, though she had yet to find out. Though her Seer's powers were frustratingly cloudy (from the hangover or this place, she wasn't yet sure), she could See enough to know that her ending up here was more than just the mechanical, randomized whim of a world-destroying video game. There were sentient beings responsible for this, and the problem with that was that they would without a doubt be wanting something.

She could ask about how and why all she wanted, she knew. The real question was whether or not Rose would be willing and able to give that to them--

And what the price would be if she wasn't.
